Fox News hosts applauded former first lady Michelle Obama’s virtual speech at the Democratic National Convention Monday night, with Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace saying she “flayed, sliced and diced” President Donald Trump. 

“Michelle Obama, as she said, doesn’t like politics and she said that this speech was her main contribution to the Biden campaign,” Wallace said.

“It was a heck of a contribution,” he added. “She really flayed, sliced and diced Donald Trump talking about the chaos and confusion and lack of empathy, especially coming from this president and this White House, spoke more about the deficits of Donald Trump than the pluses of Joe Biden, but did talk about especially, not so much policies, but especially his empathy and what he has been through and his care for average Americans.”

“This was a very effective speech,” Wallace said.

Wallace’s remarks were aired during the network’s coverage of the first night of the four-day convention, where Obama gave the last and longest speech of the night.

Fox News host and anchor Dana Perino also praised Obama, emphasizing her ability to “connect” with a virtual crowd and noting “she has that voice.”

“It’s very difficult to try to connect with an audience without an actual audience there with you, but she has the ability to connect with people through the screen,” Perino, who acted as President George W. Bush’s press secretary, said.

“You got the sense when you talk about authenticity, she has it in spades. She has that voice, she has clarity, and she knows what she is out there wanting to do,” Perino she added. “She was trying to get everybody to really focus and then she had a call to action. Ask for your ballot tonight.”

“I think that the DNC if they look over the course of the night, the first virtual convention of our history, I think they would say that Michelle Obama stuck the landing,” Perino said. 

Other speakers that were featured on the first night were Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and former Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio).

The convention will proceed Tuesday night, including speeches from Jill Biden, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and former President Bill Clinton.
