LG and Disney Unveil a Star Wars-Themed OLED TV

A partnership between LG and Star Wars includes a special Star Wars edition of the sixty-five-inch C2 OLED TV.

The annual Star Wars Celebration took place in Anaheim on Thursday, one day before the arrival of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series on Disney+.

This year's event featured several announcements, including the arrival date of the third season of the Mandalorian in 2023, as well as when we’ll be seeing other new Star Wars shows on Disney, such as Andor and Ahsoka. Another new show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, to star Jude Law, was also announced. The event also shared news about the upcoming films in the Indiana Jones and Willow franchises, both of which are under the auspices of Lucasfilm.

Also announced at the event was a tie-in between Star Wars and LG, which includes a special Star Wars edition of the sixty-five-inch C2 OLED TV. The deal had been hinted at during CES back in January.

According to Digital Trends, the TV is a limited edition, of which only 501 will be sold in the United States. There’s no word on pricing, but the box appears to come adorned with a picture of Darth Vader.

"LG Electronics USA in collaboration with Lucasfilm, unveiled today a special Star Wars edition of its award-winning LG OLED evo 65-inch C2 model,” the press release said, as reported by Flat Panels HD. "The Star Wars LG OLED evo, limited to 501 TV units in the U.S., will feature a Star Wars-inspired UI, aesthetics, packaging and gallery of Star Wars content. The TV will be available via LG.com with specific availability announced at a later date.”

In addition, the special edition will come with a Star Wars-themed remote, and “the motion cursor on-screen [will be] replaced by a lightsaber graphic.” The user will also “hear the sound of Darth Vader's breathing.” The model’s Gallery Mode also includes some Star Wars-specific art.

The standard LG C1 OLED TV, which debuted in 2021, is currently ranked as the sixth-best TV available on the market by RTINGS, which gives it a total score of 8.8. The TV was previously ranked higher but has since been bumped by some 2022 models, including two OLED TVs made by LG.

“The LG C1 OLED is an amazing all-around TV,” the site said of the original C1 model "It has stunning picture quality thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio, which is great for watching movies or gaming in the dark. The near-instantaneous response time makes motion look exceptionally clear in fast-moving games and sports, and its low input lag is great for gaming or use as a PC monitor. While it doesn't get very bright for HDR, its high contrast helps it deliver an impressive HDR experience.”
