Trump: China-Biden Investigation Has 'Nothing to Do' with Trade War

He gave the press pool a piece of his mind.

President Donald Trump said Friday during a press pool that a China investigation into Joe Biden’s activity in the country has nothing to do with the U.S.-China trade war.

Trump’s comments come a day after he suggested China investigate the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate’s 2013 trip to China with his son Hunter, who was planning to form a Chinese private equity fund and raise big money from the country, NBC News reported.

“When I speak to a foreign leader, I speak in an appropriate manner,” the president began. “Now, we’re also doing trade deals with China, and we’re doing deals with a lot of people for the country. So I’m not looking to insult people, I can tell you that.”

He then added that the investigation into Biden’s China ties has “nothing to do with” the ongoing U.S.-China trade war.

“I want to do a trade deal with China, but only if it is good for our country. It could happen. As you know they, are very much coming over next week, as I understand it,” Trump continued “I would like to do a trade deal with China, but only if it’s a great trade deal for this country.”

He concluded that “one thing has nothing to do with the other.”

Trump accused Biden of corruption after an August whistleblower complaint accused him of asking Ukrainian officials to look into the former vice president and his son’s business dealings in Ukraine. The complaint has ignited weeks of criticism against both the president and former vice president.

“I’m sure that President Xi does not like being under that kind of scrutiny, where billions of dollars were taken out of his country by a guy that just got kicked out of the Navy,” Trump said during a Thursday press pool.
