With only two years to go until the highly anticipated 2024 presidential election, a new Fox News poll has revealed that just a third of U.S. voters say they would vote to reelect President Joe Biden.

The survey, conducted October 9 to 12 with more than 1,200 registered voters, also found that 54 percent would vote for someone else in 2024. As expected, Biden pulled in most of his support from his party—more than 70 percent of Democrats say they would vote for the president, compared to 13 percent of independents and 4 percent of Republicans.

“This is a rough measure that shows some Democrats hope for a better candidate and Republicans are firmly decided against Biden,” said Democratic pollster Chris Anderson who conducted the poll with Republican Daron Shaw, per Fox News.

“But it clearly understates Biden’s likely support in an election environment against an actual Republican candidate because we know most Democrats will consolidate behind their nominee, whoever that is,” he continued.

The poll also showed that only about a third of respondents think Biden is a strong leader (35 percent), down fourteen percentage points from his high of 49 percent in October 2020.

“Political science research indicates that when a president is perceived as being a ‘strong leader’ they are likely to have positive ratings overall,” Shaw noted. “In Biden’s case, it’s hard to overcome the fact that almost two-thirds think he’s weak.”

The survey’s results appear to align with a recent Morning Consult-Politico poll, which revealed that nearly 60 percent of Democratic voters believe Biden should make another White House run.

But if Biden decides against it, Vice President Kamala Harris is in the strongest early position for the party’s nomination. Twenty-eight percent of Democratic respondents said they would vote for Harris in a hypothetical Democratic presidential primary without Biden on the ballot. Next on the list are Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 13 percent, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) at 8 percent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) at 7 percent, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom at 6 percent.

Meanwhile, a New York Times-Siena College poll published on Monday showed that former President Donald Trump leads Biden by one percentage point, 45 percent to 44 percent, in a hypothetical 2024 rematch. Last month, a Yahoo News-YouGov poll had Biden leading Trump by six points.
