Samsung Display Set to Roll Out Even More QD-OLED Products

The announcement comes as Samsung and Amazon team up for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Samsung Display plans to increase production capacity for QD-OLED panels by 30 percent by the end of the year, allowing for the production of seventy-seven-inch TVs and forty-nine-inch monitors next year. That’s according to a new report out of South Korea by The Elec, as cited by Flat Panels HD.

The company’s yield rate has reached 85 percent, a significant increase from earlier this year.

"Samsung Display will also start to manufacture 77-inch and 49-inch versions of QD-OLED next year with the added capacity. This means the South Korean company will be manufacturing 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch versions of the panel aimed at TVs and 34-inch and 49-inch versions for monitors," the report said.

Samsung Display makes the panels, while Samsung Electronics is the company that produces and releases the completed products.

Samsung Electronics’ first QD-OLED TV, the S95B OLED, has earned rave reviews and is currently rated the top TV available on the market by RTINGS, ahead of three LG OLED models that have also come out this year.

According to Display Daily, Samsung Display showed QD-OLED display technologies at the Gamescom event in Germany.

“Our self-luminous OLED and QD-OLED displays are setting a new standard in the gaming industry for performance and quality,” Samsung Display told Display Daily. “Gamescom provides a perfect opportunity to demonstrate to discerning gamers around the world just how perfectly Samsung OLED and QD-OLED displays are optimized for gaming devices.”

In another story involving Samsung and next-generation technology, Samsung announced a collaboration with Amazon to present The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in 8K.

The series itself won’t air in 8K, as very little 8K content is available for those with such TVs. Rather, it will be presented as a series of live events showing portions of the show, including in New York, London, and Milan.

“Collaborations such as this mark a major milestone in bringing 8K — the most premium display technology — to the forefront for viewers,” Simon Sung, executive vice president at Samsung Electronics, said in the announcement. “For the first time, fans can experience the stunning imagery of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs.”

“When considering how to immerse our global fans in the world of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Samsung’s exceptional technology and screens felt like a natural fit,” Andrew Bennett, Vice President of Global Device Partnerships at Prime Video, said. “Samsung’s depth, detail and incredible passion for the series has started us on an amazing journey together — one we can’t wait for audiences to experience.”
