Sony this week announced the arrival of its latest home audio product, the HT-G700 soundbar. The product supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and the Vertical Surround Engine.

The new soundbar offers three speakers, as well as what Sony calls a “deep, rich bass sound.” It can upscale regular stereo audio to 7.1.2-channel audio.

The soundbar can easily connect to a TV, HDMI gaming console, 4K Blu-ray player or set top box. The HT-G700 retails for $599.99, and as available at such retailers as Best Buy and Amazon.

“Offering a dynamic, best-in-class acoustic experience is of peak importance when designing our soundbars,” Mike Fasulo, president and chief operating officer, Sony Electronics North America, said as part of the announcement. 

“The new HT-G700 soundbar delivers a fully immersive sound experience that elevates at-home viewing and provides customers with a front row seat to their favorite movies, TV shows and content.”

Also Monday, Sony announced a trio of new “EXTRA BASS” wireless speakers, the SRS-XB43, SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB23.

While most speakers of that type are circular, the X-Balanced Speaker Unit uses a rectangular shape to offer “high-quality audio and powerful sound pressure for a richer and deeper listening experience.”

In addition to the bass sound, the new SRS-XB43 speaker offers Sony’s X-Balanced Speaker Unit, which features both a 2-way speaker system and a dedicated tweeter.

And for those wanting to take the speakers on the road, the new speakers offer 24 hours of battery life.

The XB-33, Sony says, offers 30 percent more sound pressure, and 25 percent less distortion, than its predecessor, the XB32. That speaker arrived last summer, and PC Mag wrote at the time that it “delivers a solid audio experience and a modest light show from its outdoor-friendly frame.”

“Customers expect best-in-class sound when they purchase any Sony audio product, and these new wireless speakers are no exception,” Fasulo said in the announcement. “This new lineup offers peak performance by creating clear, full sound with new colors and a compact, stylish design.”

The SRS-XB43, SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB23 have retail prices of $249.99, $149.99 and $99.99, respectively. All three are available for preorder now.
