If you’re in the market for a new HDTV and have done some research, you’ve likely heard about all of the visual goodness that OLED TVs offer. There’s no refuting those claims—they’re 100% true. Compared to top-of-the-line QLED and LCD sets currently being sold, OLEDs simply do sit alone at the summit.

One option that checks off all of those boxes is LG’s 65-inch OLED C9 Series—and be prepared to be wowed by both its design and picture quality. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t come cheap, as it is currently being retailed for $2,200. If you can live with a slightly inferior panel and want to save $300, make sure to take a hard look at LG’s B9 Series.

The C9 Series features one of the best image qualities ever tested on a TV. It delivers perfect deep black levels, precise colors, unmatched wide-viewing angles and outstanding uniformity. Even if your living room is sun-drenched on those hot, summer afternoons, this TV’s brightness level should take care of any annoying glares and reflections.

The C9 also boasts most of the ancillary perks that you want in a high-end TV, such as the much-coveted HDMI 2.1 features—including eARC—and comes with support for Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple AirPlay 2. The HDMI port will have no problem handling 4K at 120fps.

The handy remote control also lets you speak to, and hear from, those voice assistants. The webOS smart TV operating system is fluid and mostly user-friendly as well, so getting to your favorite streaming app or on-demand content will surely be a snap for family movie nights.

Because of the much-praised organic light-emitting diode technology, there is no backlighting to be found, so the overall design is sleek and slim—in fact, the C9 is thinner than many smartphones out there.

As with most TVs that feature super-slim designs, the speakers are usually a conspicuous weak point. Although LG’s speakers are OK for everyday casual TV-watching, you should really invest in a decent soundbar to bring out that immersive, cinematic experience when watching sports and action-heavy movies. The stand looks sturdy and quite nice as well, with its angled edges and medium width across the bottom of the screen.

Another great aspect of the C9 is that it boasts superb variable refresh rate and extremely low input lag, which will surely be appreciated by hardcore gamers out there. Considering that many are waiting patiently to get their hands on the next-gen PlayStation or Xbox, these are smart future-proof features to have. Plus, keep in mind that you’ll be saving big money in the long run by not having to purchase a dedicated monitor for your gaming needs.
