LG’s 55-inch BX OLED 4K TV was released earlier this summer, as an entry-level model of the company’s 2020 line. At launch, the BX line was priced at $1,499 and $2,199, for its 55- and 65-inch models.

This month, some reviews have appeared of the LG BX, and they have been very positive.

RTINGS gives the BX OLED TV review an 8.7 mixed-usage score, which makes it the fourth highest-rated TV in their overall rankings, and the second-highest among 2020 models, behind LG’s CX OLED TV. In fact, the top five TVs in the rankings are now all LG OLED models, from either 2019 or 2020.

“The LG BX OLED is an excellent overall TV,” the site said in its review. “With its OLED technology, it's able to individually turn off pixels, resulting in an infinite contrast ratio and perfect black uniformity, so blacks appear black when viewed in the dark. It's outstanding for gaming because it has a near-instant response time, VRR support, and a really low input lag.”

Listed pros by the site include the infinite contrast ratio, wide viewing angles, outstanding reflection handling, and “near-instant response time,” listed cons include that it doesn’t get very bright, “lower-frame content [stutters,”] and the risk of burn-in that comes from some OLED TVs.

Of the individual categories, RTINGS gave the BX OLED TV an exceptionally high score of 9.4, calling it “outstanding for watching movies in dark rooms.”

Another recent review of BX OLED TV, from reviewed.com, also praised the TV for combining performance with value.

“We love the BX's incredible performance, its ultra-thin design, and its future-proof hardware, but its middle-of-the-road peak brightness might give some shoppers pause,” the review said. “No one likes to think of their high-end investment as a compromise, and for all of its brilliance, the BX isn't quite as impressive as the other OLED TVs we've tested this year.” The site also predicted that “when all is said and done, the LG BX will most likely be one of the five best TVs we review this year.”

On the negative side, Reviewed also noted that the TV doesn’t get as bright as some of its competitors.

“All in all, the BX is a tremendously exciting TV that, crucially, will serve you well for several years to come,” the review concluded, noting that the BX is cheap by OLED standards, but not by overall TV standards.

LG also announced this week that it will offer a free pair of LG Tone Free True Wireless Earbuds to anyone purchasing select LG OLED TVs.
