Ultra HD GOT Is Here: Game of Thrones 4K Blu-ray Set Arrives Today

The entire run of Game of Thrones can be streamed through HBO on-demand, as well as HBO Max. So why spring for the new set? For one thing, in 4K Blu-ray, the show is sure to look better than ever.

For those who are keenly interested in long-term battles over who gets to claim vast power in the capital city, Nov. 3 is a huge day for more than one reason.

In addition to election day, Tuesday is also the release date for the complete series 4K Blu-ray box set of Game of Thrones. Titled Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection, the release is priced at $209.99 on Amazon, down from the original price of $254.99.

Previously, the entire series was available on Blu-ray, and the first and last seasons were out on 4K Blu-ray. The release of the full set was first announced back in July.

The entire run of Game of Thrones can be streamed through HBO on-demand, as well as HBO Max. So why spring for the new set? For one thing, in 4K Blu-ray, the show is sure to look better than ever.

The set, per HBO’s press release, comes with fifteen hours of bonus content, plus Digital Copy. The discs will come with Dolby Atmos soundtracks, and the bonus features include a two-part reunion with special host Conan O’Brien, which is available exclusively as part of the set. Also included are the making-of documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, which aired on HBO after the series wrapped up, and numerous other documentaries, deleted scenes, and commentaries.

“We are thrilled to offer Game of Thrones fans an in-home viewing experience worthy of the groundbreaking show with the long-awaited release of Game of Thrones: The Complete Series on 4K Ultra HD,”  Rosemary Markson, the WBHE senior vice president of television marketing said in the July release.  “For the first time ever and unavailable anywhere else, loyal fans and collectors will be able to enjoy every extraordinary moment of this iconic show in eye-popping 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision HDR. Packed with over 15 hours of special features spanning all 8 seasons and a digital copy of every episode, this collectible set also makes a perfect holiday gift.”

And yes, the Game of Thrones Blu-ray set is yet another Game of Thrones-related project that has reached the market prior to “The Winds of Winter,” the long-delayed next installment in author George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.

The first Game of Thrones spinoff series, House of the Dragon, is expected to arrive in 2022, and it recently named actor Paddy Considine as its first cast member. The new series will be set centuries before the events of the Game of Thrones series and will focus on the history of House Targaryen.
