Is AOC the Real Leader of the Democratic Party?
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s political, economic and social goals have an impact that expands beyond the progressive groups and young voters in the Democratic coalition.
Perhaps this “new generation” that Biden identified is more of a transitional form of ideology, reforming the Democratic Party’s infrastructure until structural unity is achieved. Under the Biden administration, Democrats must discover how far “left” the party is willing to go, while also maintaining support from more centrist members of the party.
“A.O.C. is part of a faction of the Democratic Party, and it is a faction that will continue to grow, especially in an era when Congress never passes legislation and the result shifts political struggle into other venues—base party mobilization, social media, public opinion, etc.,” Mitchell said.
