Why France's Anger at AUKUS Should Be Taken Seriously

The French are really angry and have just enough nuisance potential to make it hard for America to capitalize on its diplomatic victory in both Europe and the Pacific.

America has scored an important diplomatic victory with the signing of the AUKUS alliance. It now needs to build on it to strengthen its larger partnerships. Otherwise it will hand China an opportunity to weaken its remaining alliances. The telephone conversation between President Biden and President Macron (requested by the United States, a clear sign of opening) is a first step towards that.
