Here we go again—that never-ending battle between QLED and OLED panels.

For this round, we have Vizio’s P-Series Quantum X going up against the 48CX, LG’s newest member of its highly regarded OLED HDTV lineup.

If you’re looking to see who has the edge purely based on price, the Quantum X comes out on top, as it retails for $1,100 for the 65-inch model and $1,900 for the 75-inch beast. The 48-inch CX, on the other hand, is currently going for $1,500—as many would agree, pretty pricey for a sub-50-inch set.

The price points, however, do not tell the entire story. Keep in mind that the CX features an OLED panel, which arguably boasts the best picture quality on the planet—not to mention accurate, popping colors, deepest blacks and inimitable uniformity and contrast levels.

Unlike QLED TVs, these OLED panels have shown that wide-angle viewing is second to none. This will surely come in handy if you have wraparound or side seating that can create more extreme viewing angles of the TV screen.

Boasting 8 million pixels (comparable to 96-inch 8K HDTV) in its compact panel, LG noted that the CX would work well as a secondary TV or for graphics-intensive gaming. It also comes with Nvidia G-Sync and supports an array of HDR formats like HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

The Quantum X may never topple LG’s OLEDs from the best-picture summit, but this particular set does emphatically meet the high standards of the best LCD-based, quantum dot-enhanced TVs out there—including Samsung’s much-vaunted QLED models.

Like its OLED counterpart, the Quantum X, with its own quantum color tech, boasts outstanding deep black levels and a uniform screen. And as an added bonus, this Vizio offering won’t suffer from burn-in and can get much brighter than LG’s more expensive panels—a much-needed perk if you have bright rooms or want to enjoy daytime viewing. 

To achieve its highly regarded picture quality, the Quantum X features a hefty number of zones of full-array local dimming, which is great if you want to improve contrast ratios. Not to be outdone, it comes with a true 120Hz refresh rate panel and fully supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

So, which TV should you settle on? It really is a toss-up, but perhaps the best answer is neither. In terms of having unparalleled value, the top choice is LG’s B9 Series, which also boasts many of the fine picture qualities of the CX but is 7 inches larger and $200 cheaper—and only $200 more than the 65-inch Quantum X.
