New York Democratic Party Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (or AOC) is, sadly, a member of my generation.

Only a few years younger than myself, she continues to cast my generation—the generation that volunteered to fight in the quicksand of the Middle East after 9/11 and was made to endure one financial crisis after another—in the most negative light imaginable. 

Like most people in my generation (and in the upcoming Gen-Z cohort), AOC is entirely incapable of hearing alternative points of view. Moreover, when she hears those differing opinions, she has a total conniption fit. 

And that just might be her undoing. 

More Than Stupidity

Ordinarily, this would be a tragic trait in a deeply damaged, ignorant individual. Unfortunately for society writ large, AOC is an elected leader in Congress with wider ambitions.

This gives the New York congresswoman an outsized platform with which to spout ineloquent about whatever pet cause that she’s embraced today while at the same time besmirching anyone who would dare to challenge her superficial take on that cause célèbre. 

While protesting a recent Republican-supported bill to ban sexually explicit books for children as young as kindergarten age, she referred to the parent groups backing that GOP bill as “fascists” while on the House Floor in an entirely unhinged speech months back.

Much gesticulating and screeching ensued from her as she waved children’s books about that weren’t really the focus of the GOP bill. 

Anything for a great show, though. 

Further, AOC has proven herself to not be above lying while acting in her official congressional duties. The creator of the popular (and wonderfully controversial) “Libs of TikTok” social media account, Chaya Raichik, had to go as far as presenting AOC with an official ethics complaint months back for AOC’s blatant lies and defamatory comments about Raichik and her “Libs of TikTok” account. 

When Raichik confronted the unscrupulous bartender-turned-congressional diva in the halls of Cannon House Office Building, AOC recoiled and, in classic Maoist fashion engaged in an emotional counteraccusation. AOC doubled-down on her defamatory comments and accused Raichik of being “transphobic”. 

Like the Bourbons of old, upon which AOC is clearly basing her rise to power, the “working-class” (by way of the posh New York suburb of Yorktown Heights) congresswoman from the Bronx, AOC has learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

To make the most reasonable person, regardless of party affiliation, dislike AOC even more is the apparent double-standard by which she lives. On the one hand, like far too many of my fellow Millennials, AOC has an extremely lofty opinion of herself. As I have said before, she is the one we’ve all been waiting for (not quite but that’s what she thinks). Everything the girl wonder says is unique and original. Anyone who dares to question her is, like, totally Hitler. 

AOC, like the rest of her party (and far too many people in both the Millennial and Gen-Z cohort), has a very severe totalitarian streak inside of them. This was likely cultivated in the intellectual killing fields and conformity-producing indoctrination centers that we call the modern university. 

And remember, the “wokeness” that dominates most campuses today did not begin with the rise of Donald J. Trump and his “Make America Great Again” movement. It started in the early 2000s and evolved into the mind-killing pathogen that afflicts millions of our fellow citizens—and, apparently, elected officials—today. 

Hypocrisy You Can Trust from AOC

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, AOC was manic about draconian lockdown measures, scolding anyone who dared deviate from the prescribed ideological conditioning the Democratic Party had enforced upon the mostly Democratic voters of New York City. Yet, even as she insisted on harsh conformity—or else—AOC sojourned to my neck of the woods in the Free State of Florida. 

She went to a winter getaway in Miami where she was spotted by onlookers walking around South Beach and dining at the amazing cafes along Ocean Drive carefree and maskless—while her constituents sheltered-in-place under threat of state-sanctioned reprisals.

When AOC was called out for her apparent hypocrisy Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, rather than demure or apologize to her voters for having bullied them and betrayed them, she attempted to clapback at DeSantis by inquiring where the governor had been for the previous two weeks. 

Haughty and maniacal, the New York representative didn’t get the text message that DeSantis had been at his cancer-stricken wife’s side while she received caustic—though lifesaving—chemotherapy treatments. 

Undeterred from her failed clapback at DeSantis for honestly calling out AOC’s hypocrisy (partly because the mainstream media refused to check their golden girl), AOC next got into a nasty fight with a group of her own constituents at a townhall she hosted in her district. AOC ran as a Bernie Sanders-type Progressive. 

Although, once in power, she quickly pivoted. While she still retains her personal Left-wing politics she has not governed as those who elected her want her to. Instead, she has kept her head down and done whatever the neoliberal elite who run the Democratic Party have asked of her—angering her voters. 

Once confronted by Progressive activists in her district a few months ago, rather than explain herself, she simply mocked them by dancing to their “AOC has gotta go!” chants. The woman acts with impunity that comes both from her being an ignorant and entitled member of my generation as well as from the fact that she has clearly made a deal with the powerbrokers in the DNC.

Can AOC Last?

Lastly, there was the recent case of AOC’s Republican colleague from Georgia, Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (MTG), a woman that many have labeled as the “Republican AOC”, getting heckled and booed by people while holding a vigil in front of the Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald J. Trump was set to be arraigned. 

Rather than calling for cooler heads to prevail; acting in accordance with the standards of decency that all elected Members of the House are to comport themselves by in and outside of the House Chambers, AOC encouraged the borderline violent crowd to mock MTG. 

Had the high heel been on the other well-manicured foot, though, one can rest assured that AOC would have melted under the sustained pressure. In fact, she’d have likely demanded legal action against the smelly plebes who’d dared to challenge her brilliance. But for MTG no such similar courtesy—professional or personal—was awarded. It was good MTG was being shouted down and threatened because she was one of the deplorables. 

Face it, AOC is a bully. And like all bullies, she can dish it out but can rarely take the heat. Hers is a fragile political glass jaw. It’d be nice if one of her Republican colleagues came up and broke that glass jaw with a rapid-fire series of ideological attacks to force her to moderate her bullying behavior.
